McLean Little League (MLL) in McLean, Virginia
Mclean Little League, Inc., (MLL) was founded in 1956 and is chartered by Little League, Inc. This year we begin the 54th year of our commitment to the children within the McLean Little League boundaries. During the 2008 spring season, our program supported over 100 teams in the softball and baseball programs.
The McLean Little League Charter has two leagues, American and National. Our charter requires children playing baseball be assigned to the American League if they have an even number birth day (example1/24) or the National League if they have an odd birth day (example 1/25).
McLean Little League faces unique challenges. All funds to run the league and maintain the property come from members, sponsors, advertisers and donors. McLean Little League holds title to its ballpark on Westermoreland Street and operates and maintains the complex, independent of any county or governmental funding. With the exception of an administrative support person and complex manager, all support staff are volunteers. Volunteers commit their time because they care about our community and children.
MLL needs one manager, two coaches, a team parent and a Bat-a-Thon coordinator for each team. With 100 teams, tht requires at least 500 volunteers. In addition to these 500 members, snack bar workers, before season field volunteers and umpires, just to name a few.
McLean Little League is governed by 25 members of the Board of Directors. The board is responsible for the operation, training and logistics of our players and complex. The President of the board is elected by the board members and serves one 2-year term.
