Be An Umpire

Umpires are assigned to all games at AAA and above.  Because of the number of baseball and softball games we require a large number of umpires.  In most cases, these umpires are teen-agers who are former McLean Little League players and have returned because of their love for the game and our program.

The success of the teen-age umpire program would not be possible without the dedication of Chief Umpire Tom Donnelly.  He trains, schedules and oversees the young umpires.  This is a huge undertaking each year, and Tom rarely receives the credit and appreciation for all he does.  If you see him around the McLean Little League complex, be sure to thank him for his great work with the teens of McLean.  He is always more than happy to discuss Little League and MLL rules. 

We need to provide positive feedback to encourage these teenagers to become better umpires.  We ask that players, managers, coaches, and parents be respectful of our umpires.  In addition, the Board of Directors has no tolerance for managers, coaches and parents who berate or mistreat our umpires and will not hesitate to take action in situations that merit such action.  Please focus your attention on encourage and cheering the teams on the field, not questioning or arguing an umpire calls.
