ALL-STARS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT TEAMS

McLean Little League (MLL) fields 10-12 All-Star teams annually to play in a tournament against other local little league teams starting in mid-June and the tournament can last through as late as early August (Nationals) depending on how far the teams advance. Teams are broken down by sport (baseball or softball), league (National or American for baseball), and age group (8-10, 9-11, Majors, and Intermediate/Jrs & Srs). There are six levels of tournament play in Little League Baseball and five within Little League Softball, with opportunities for players ages 8 to 16. The tournaments start at the District level, and teams must win their way to advance through the International Tournament. The 8- to 10-Year-Old and 9- to 11-Year-Old Tournaments culminate at the Tournament of State Champions in TN, while the Little League, Little League Intermediate (50/70) Baseball, Junior League, and Senior League divisions all conclude at a World Series Tournament.

McLean Little League (MLL) encourages experienced players—those who best represent the combined attributes of physical ability, baseball and softball knowledge, positive attitude, and dedication to their sport—to compete in All Stars. The criteria for selection must be limited to eligibility, availability, and ability.

All-Stars Tournament Eligibility

●      Players must be eligible players within the MLL boundary, based on their physical address or school attended. Please see the Little League Residency and School Attendance Eligibility Requirements for more details, and the Little League Residency Checklist

●      Player must have played in most of their team’s regular season games. (minimum of 2/3, e.g. 12 of 18 or 8 of 12)

●      Players must attend an All Star tryouts to be considered for the 8-10 and 9-1 teams. The Majors softball All Stars follow a different process outlined below.

All-Stars Tournament Selection Process

  • Players are nominated by their Team Manager or peers.
  • For Softball Majors - the players are selected through a combination of 3 processes: 1) Majors players vote for 5 players (the top 5 players based on votes across the league will make the team, subject to board approval, 2) Majors manager consensus to select the next 5 players 3) The Majors all star manager picks the final 2 players.
  • Players will be evaluated based on their performance in the current season; including attributes such as positive sportsmanship, leadership, and respect for the game.
  • All players, including previous tournament players, are not guaranteed to be selected.
  • Parents MUST Attend the Parent All-Stars meeting, and VOLUNTEER to support the All Star process in order for their child to play. This could include any one of a number of roles that the team managers will assign.

All-Stars Tournament Commitment

Being selected to play on the tournament team is a significant time commitment for players and their families. The tournament season starts in mid-June and ends between late-June to mid-July or later if teams advance to regionals or beyond. Practices are frequent (daily) and full participation is expected.

●      Players must be able to attend 90% of all practices and 100% of the All-Star games. The All-Star Committee may approve absences in exceptional circumstances.

●      Players who are not available during All-Star season will not be considered for selection.

●      Parents will be required to help with snack bar duty, scorekeeping, and pitch counts. We cannot run All-Star tournaments without your helpt. There is a $200 recommended fee for All Stars participation.

●      Parents of players on teams that advance to the state tournaments may also have additional costs incurred for travel and hotel expenses.

MLL is sending this message out in advance so that players and their families can plan out their summer vacation plans. Additional details and specific instructions will be provided to parents towards the end of the regular season.
